Make the unfamiliar a little more familiar
A flight brings new places, sounds and plenty of waiting. Playing through the journey gives you a shared starting point for explaining what happens next. Your child can ask questions, imagine the experience and explore it with someone they trust.
The aim is curiosity and connection, not a perfectly quiet passenger. There is room for excitement, uncertainty and breaks.
Turn your living room into a little airport
Choose a relaxed moment before your trip. A small bag, a favorite toy and two chairs can be all you need. Start the audio, put the screen aside and follow your child’s imagination.
You can pretend to pack, show a ticket, find your seats and wait your turn. Use these as your own play ideas and pause the recording when you want to explore them. Nothing needs to look exactly like a real airport.
For a longer flight, explain that the real journey will last much longer than your pretend one. Plan for food, rest and changes of activity, and let your child know you will help along the way.
